How monotonous work kills your creativity?

“Creativity is all about doing something differently using your brain and that’s how you fall in love with your work. However monotonous work disrupts your creativity and makes you hate the work you do.”

This monotonous work is the enemy of your happiness at work. You do the same work every day that doesn’t need much thinking. You work at a same place with same people. You follow same rules and regulations every day. This way monotony becomes your best friend and makes you an enemy to creativity.

Even you get comfortable with the monotony and stops thinking and works like a machine. This way your life becomes boring and gets away from creativity.

I feel monotony and death to be almost the same. — Charlotte Bronte.

If you are one of the people who hate your job now but you liked it at the start. You will understand the effect of monotony. The effects are as follows:

  • It makes our thinking regular.
  • It makes you lose creativity.
  • It teaches you comfort.
  • It makes you avoid risk.
  • It makes you avoid new ideas.
  • It makes you lose your imagination power.
  • It creates boredom in life.
  • The prolonged monotony makes you lose control.
  • It also makes you depressed and feel worried.
  • It makes you desperate.
  • It makes you a machine.

Therefore, you need to stop monotonous methods of doing or change the work you do. You can make few changes in your life and add some simple ways into it and beat monotony. These ways may work for you in long-time process. So keep practicing them.

Beware of monotony; it’s the mother of all deadly sins. — Edith Wharton

The ways to break monotony are:

  • Don’t continuously work. Take breaks. Take a walk or listen to some good music.
  • Maintain a journal and write your creative thoughts every day. Make this a routine and therefore you will never run out of creative ideas.
  • Challenge the status quo. Don’t follow the usual methods at work. Think of some better way to accomplish your work. Do ig differently and become expert at it. This may take time but it’s worthy.

Monotony collapses time; novelty unfolds it. You can exercise daily and eat healthily and live a long life, while experiencing a short one. If you spend your life sitting in a cubicle and passing papers, one day is bound to blend unmemorably into the next - and disappear. — Joshua Foer

  • Rearrange your working space. Make it look good. Fill it with what you like the most. This helps you work inspired.
  • Take a walk. Enjoy the nature. Meet strangers. Talk to them and make the right ones friends.
  • Travel to new places. Make new experiences.
  • Learn new skills and upgrade your mind.
  • Read everyday something new and this sharpens your imagination as well as creativity.
  • Volunteer and help others and this helps you stay motivated all the time.

“Monotony is the best enemy of happiness and the best friend of comfort that spoils human spirit.”

Don’t dwell and suffer yourself in the monotonous work you hate. You fix it or change the work. The ultimate goal of human life is to have happiness and peace. If you don’t get it. You are already wasting your life. So fix it now.
